Current signs are pointing to a possible 2009 release for the much anticipated God of War III, now I am not saying a 2009 release for God of War III is what I want, I would like the game to be released when Santa Monica and Sony are happy with it, I want it released when it is finished and soaking in awesome! however here are some signs that could point to a release later this year.
Sign #1
As hinted by HipHopGamer and other news sites, a possible God of War III demo might go live on PSN, supposedly after Sony's E3 presentation. Now if HHG is right(wouldn't be the first time) then it could be quite a major sign that we'll see GOWIII this year.
Because if we look into the history of Sony, or even look at how exclusives are handled by companies like Sony and MS, usually when they release game demos' for an exclusive title, that title is released in the same year.

Secondly, God of War III will be shown at E3, to what extent isn't fully known, but we can expect a demonstration of some sorts, this hints at a possible 2009 release because by Sony showcasing the game at E3, and getting everyone hyped up for the title, it would seem somewhat daft to then release it in 2010, when all the E3 hype would have died down massively. However this isn't a solid point for a 2009 release, but a sign nonetheless.

Thirdly, if you group together the possibility of a PS3 price-drop, and a God of War III release, then Sony would have an unstoppable 2009, think about it - a PS3 price reduction + God of War III would absolutely boost Sony's standing, I can imagine they would have taken all this into consideration.

We must also take into consideration that production on the game started way back in 2005 according to this interview, so if the engine has been in development for up to 4 years, who knows, it might actually be ready for a 2009 release. Lets not forget how quickly games can progress between development phases.
To reiterate, I am not saying that I want the game rushed out in 2009, I'd be completely happy with a God of War III 2009 release, as long as the game is ready and Santa Monica are happy with it, due to this fact I am more than happy with waiting till 2010 to see Kratos in action on my PS3. Regardless we'll find out just when it's released come E3 in just a few weeks.

Why is everyone think God Of War is a system seller.
God of War 2 sold less than 2.5 million on a system with an install base of over 100 million.
They're awesome but the God of War series isn't a huge seller.

GOW2 came out when the PS3 was being released and while the 360 was already out so attention had shifted.
At this point no game will sell the system, many have tried, all have failed. To think GOW will win 2009 for Sony is retarded.

@ Anonymous #7, GOW3 alone won't win for sony... You're an idiot to even think that any of us are believing that. It's the compilation of the many great titles the PS3 already has , along with the up-coming inFAMOUS, GOW3, HeavyRain, GT5, FFXIII vs... etc... etc...
As long as it's not rushed and I get to play it this lifetime, I'm good!
There are a ton of games that will help sell consoles for Sony, Killzone 2 has helped them a lot and I'm sure they will release new bundles with Uncharted 2 and GOW3 that will be cheaper.
