It's true, God of War III will be a title worthy enough to cause the sale of numerous PS3's, Sony is on to something big here, and I'll outline exactly why.
Firstly, the latest poll I ran on the site 'Is GOW3 enough to make you buy a PS3?' has provided some convincing results, as you can see 79% of the people who voted would pick up a PlayStation 3 solely due to the release of God of War III, of the 169 people who voted, 134 people chose 'yes'.
Let's face it, there aren't that many PlayStation-exclusive game series that command the same authority and hype that the God of War series does, Uncharted 2 looks stunning, it's probably my biggest contender for GOTY 2009, but I don't know many people who would go out and purchase a PS3 on just Uncharted 2 alone, it's the truth. Killzone 2 the same thing, however I personally know people just waiting for God of War III to drop into stores, and the poll clearly confirms this.
In addition one must consider the sort of impact a price drop + God of War III will have on the sales of the PS3. Right now there are numerous reasons to buy a PS3, top quality titles across the board, and a combination of these titles more than merits the purchase of a PS3, however it seems like GoWIII might be strong enough to be a 'standalone' reason to get a 'Black Beast'.
I've also collected research data from various other forums, including Gametrailers and IGN, and the results are roughly the same, we've all heard the saying numbers don't lie - and the numbers are pointing to a mass sale of PS3's when this beastly title gets released...March 2010 can't come soon enough.

God of War is THE best action franchise on any console. I have no doubt that it will help move PS3s.
kratos really is sonys lapdog on the playstation if you think about it. at least here in america, hes as popular as master chief. if they were smart, they would start franchising that sucker like microsoft is doing to the halo series.
My guess is that Sony will launch ps3 along with God of War III. So that it helps the sales shoot up. Anyways, God of War III is going to shoot the sales up no matter what. Whether they cut the price or not. I bet millions are waiting for this beastly title to open the shackles and pounce upon the gaming world. But a slimmer ps3 with added backward ps2 compatibility along with considerable price-drop with the release of God of War III will rocket launch the ps3 sales for sure.

wow someone has some issues lol but yea i do agree with you in an interview with the creators of the game they said they dont want to change to much in the gameplay and controls so fans of the game feel like it is still their game and why change what people already loved and worked great? AND BTW they are adding alot of new features like the grapple from enemy to enemy, pull an enemy to you, pull yourself to an enemy, o yeah and the "zipper" effect aka intestines falling out of the beasts onto the ground talk about AMAZING. This game will be 2010 GOTY

I woudl HATE to see Sony start doing to Kratos and the GOW series like Micrsoft if doing to Halo and Nintendo is doing to Mario. NOT doing that with their games is always something that i have loved Sony for. Their first party exclusives seems to stay on the field for as long as they are good and then once they go south BAM no more unlike Nintendo hey lets just make another crappy game and put mario in it then people will buy it
